Google Challenges Microsoft Operating Systems: Introducing Google Chrome OS

Google looks to be taking the next step in broadening its offerings.  It has decided to attack Microsoft at the core . . its operating system.

Google announced on Tuesday that it has taken its nine month old browser technology and created an open source operating system under the same name. They hope to have the systems running by the second half of 2010.

The OS is designed specifically for netbooks (inexpensive, low-cost laptops) as opposed to their first effort, Android, targeted more at mobile devices.

The pairing seems to make sense as the Chrome OS sounds to be a more simple, light and quick OS running on top of a Linux kernel, intended on getting you up and on to the web in a few seconds.
